Global Mind Change

Throughout history, the really fundamental changes in societies have come about not from dictates of governments and the results of battles but through vast numbers of people changing their minds -- sometimes only a little bit.

Some of the changes have amounted to profound transformations -- for instance the transition from the Roman Empire to Medieval Europe, or from the Middle Ages to modern times. Others have been more specific, such as the constitution of democratic governments in England and America, or the termination of slavery as an accepted institution. In the latter cases, it is largely a matter of people recalling that no matter how powerful the economic or political or even military institution, it persists because it has legitimacy, and that legitimacy comes from the perceptions of people. People give legitimacy and they can take it away. A challenge to legitimacy is probably the most powerful force for change to be found in history.

To the empowering principle that the people can withhold legitimacy, and thus change the world, we now add another: By deliberately changing the internal image of reality, people can change the world. Perhaps the only limits to the human mind are those we believe in.

Living Deeply-The Art & Science of Transforamtion in Everyday Life

Living Deeply transcends any one approach by focusing on common elements of transformation across a variety of traditions, while affirming and supporting the diversity of approaches across religious, spiritual, scientific, academic, and cultural backgrounds. Each chapter in the book ends with "Experiences of Transformation," exercises drawn from wisdom traditions or scientific investigations meant to enhance your direct experience of the material.

Opportunities to actively engage in your own transformation and that of our world are woven into the fabric of your everyday life. Learning more about the terrain of consciousness transformation can not only give you a map, but can help you become the cartographer of your own transformative journey. Research over the last decade at the Institute of Noetic Sciences has systematically surveyed hundreds of people's stories of their own transformations, as well as conducting over 50 in-depth interviews with teachers and masters of the world's spiritual, religious, and transformative traditions.

No matter who you are, where you come from, or what your current path is - whether you seek to transform your life completely or simply make adjustments that will add a layer of richness and depth to your life - exploring the many ways that transformation is stimulated and sustained can hold great power. Weaving together cutting-edge science with wisdom from teachers of the world's transformative traditions this book explores how people experience deep shifts in their consciousness, and how those shifts can lead to healing and wholeness.

By authors: Marilyn Mandala Schlitz, Cassandra Vieten, Tina Amorok
Preface by: Richard Gunther
Foreword by: Robert A.F. Thurman

KEY MESSAGES

Common and enduring principles can be found in all wisdom traditions and religions – there is a universal set of truths and values common to all peoples and cultures.

Transformation is an ongoing, natural process that is available to everyone in each moment.

Life teaches us what we need to know – the opportunities to learn suffuse each day if we are paying attention. Both painful and joyful experiences can be transformative.

Dramatic and lasting change for the better springs from radically shifting your perspective of who you are. This most essential change, the one from which all other changes arise, is a shift in how you view the world and your perception of what is possible.

Transforming your consciousness may be the most important thing you can do for yourself and the world.

Deciding where to direct your attention and intention has a profound impact on how you relate to yourself, others, the earth, and all living beings.

Transformation is a practice and must be lived in your daily life to be sustainable and meaningful -- transformation is about how we LIVE our everyday lives, how we behave in the world.

The more we become aware, awake, or “conscious,” – the more our life becomes a practice, and everything we do is a practice. We need to practice and expand our capacity for love, compassion and generosity.

Intention Matters -- One of the most crucial cultivators of transformation is intention – transformation is something we choose, nurture and cultivate into being.

Transformation brings with it an understanding of unity and entails the shift from “I to We” --You begin to live from a place and understanding that will benefit all.

Transformation brings about the realization that everything is sacred and we begin to quite naturally orient ourselves toward protecting and preserving all life.

Reality Sandwich

Reality Sandwich is a web magazine for this time of intense transformation. Subjects run the gamut from sustainability to shamanism, alternate realities to alternative energy, remixing media to re-imagining community, holistic healing techniques to the promise and perils of new technologies. We hope to spark debate and engagement by offering a forum for voices ranging from the ecologically pragmatic to the wildly visionary (which, to our delight, sometimes turn out to be the one and the same).
Counteracting the doom-and-gloom of the daily news, Reality Sandwich is a platform for voices conveying a different vision of the transformations we face.
It's goal is to inspire psychic evolution and a kind of earth alchemy.

Dozens of regular contributors post a variety of content, including thought pieces and essays, short news stories, video clips, and audio podcasts.

As Reality Sandwich develops, it will become much more than a traditional online magazine. Reality Sandwich will merge media with a social network that facilitates connections between the members of our international community.
As features present visionary ideas and new tools for sustainable living, the social network will support members in using these new concepts and techniques in their own lives, as well as facilitating discussions about their own journeys of discovery.

The goal is to have the Reality Sandwich community extend organically, from virtual contacts to real-world interactions. As the real processes of evolution and self-development takes place far away from computer screens and jingling cell phones, Reality Sandwich intends to bridge the gap between the digital and physical realm. Hope is that Reality Sandwich will enrich the lives of its users in directly tangible and meaningful ways.

The Source of Our Strength

What is it that will inspire any of us to find the courage and the heart to take our own lives deadly seriously, to get to that point where we are ready to embrace the overwhelming urgency of the call of the future?
It's very difficult to get human beings to feel as passionate about the imperative to evolve as they would feel if their life was being threatened. But the whole point of evolutionary enlightenment is to evolve to a level of consciousness and conscience where we care that much. And if we want to create a truly enlightened future, the source of our strength has to be the highest.
The experiential recognition of what's possible—the glory of it, the significance of it, the sense of meaning and purpose—should be what's compelling us. Only there will we find the conviction and passion to catalyze the kind of transformation that is so desperately needed.

The 2007 Shift Report

"We are living through one of the most fundamental shifts in history — a change in the actual belief structure of Western society. No economic, political, or military power can compare with the power of a change of mind. By deliberately changing their images of reality, people are changing the world."
— Willis Harman, Global Mind Change

OVERVIEW

The 2007 Shift Report: Evidence of a World Transforming, attempts to chart the transition we believe is underway from a rigid, mechanistic, and materialistic worldview to one that is built on a foundation of interconnectedness, cooperation, and the intersection of science and spirituality. This 80-page document, highlighted with sidebars, charts, and quotations, is organized into four major sections:

Section I – Worldview Breakdown

While acknowledging the benefits that the Newtonian paradigm has provided, this section makes clear that the limitations of this worldview are exceeding our ability to overcome them, leading to potential worldwide disaster. The impacts of such factors as trauma, stress, and the fragmentation of consciousness are addressed.

Section II – Worldview Emergence

The unprecedented intersection of biology, systems theory, neuroscience, and quantum physics is revealing the contours of a new worldview, potentially sparking a new human potential movement. From epigenetics and the study of resilience to chaos theory and insights into the “god experience,” researchers are revealing a world of untapped possibilities, individual as well as collective.

Section III – Integration / Application

This emerging paradigm is showing up in different ways in the major institutions of modern life. This section briefly explores those impacts in the areas of education, medicine, business, psychology, and international trends. IONS’ relevant contributions to these various areas are highlighted.

Section IV – Living Deeply: The IONS Transformation Research Project

This section describes the methodology and some of the most compelling findings of this ongoing ten-year project to map the phenomenon of individual transformation.

Pick of the day!

Have a look at these really great sites and blogs, which I really enjoyed browsing:
Blog space created to share thoughts, ideas, and resources in the name of expanding consciousness and influencing positive change within ourselves and in the world.

Blogger profile:
During a break from a 25 year career in marketing, I decided to search for a vocation. While doing so, I uncovered some of the most remarkable work in new thought and frontier science.
There is an expansive wave of interest in these topics and many believe an unprecedented shift in human consciousness is underway.
Scientists and spiritualists alike are calling for the world to listen up, this is not just for yogis anymore. By learning more about who we really are and fostering respect for one another, respect for the earth, respect for our own creative expression, we elevate our consciousness. When there is a shift in our own consciousness, as a matter of quantum mechanics, there is a universal effect.
While the quantum mechanics statement is a lot for many people to swallow, we should at least be willing to keep an open mind and embrace some of the new thinking that is presently in the ether. When we do this, the results in personal gain alone can be quite rewarding. In cooperation with The Institute of Noetic Sciences, the StreamSource Community Group brings forth a wealth of information on these topics for discussion and assimilation into day to day life.
